Community Conversations: Your chance to be heard
Why did you choose to attend?
“To have my voice heard,” one person said. Another responded: “I feel like younger people need to get involved.”
On Jan. 30, a group of more than 550 people interested in the future of Overland Park offered thoughts, ideas and hopes for the future of Overland Park at the Imagine Tomorrow Workshop at the Overland Park Convention Center.
It’s all part of an outreach by elected officials and community leaders. The communitywide visioning project is called ForwardOP and asks: How does Overland Park move forward over the next 20-30 years.
An after-workshop meeting survey asked: Why did you choose to attend the Jan. 30 workshop?
Hundreds of responses were
provided, with a range of responses from love and care of
Overland Park, wanting to see how the city would develop, to concern about development in Downtown Overland Park.
At the workshop, participants were also asked to write a headline about Overland Park for
the year 2038. Responses included; Overland Park Hosts 2038 Olympics; State Capital moves to Overland Park; OP named most innovative city in U.S.; and Overland Park attracts another corporate HQ.
All of the headlines and ideas are summarized in the Imagine Tomorrow Workshop Summary Report

The next step in this effort is to continue gaining community feedback.
“Community Conversations” will provide the opportunity for you, every resident and
business in Overland Park to become involved. Multiple day and evening meetings throughout Overland Park will be scheduled over a three-day period April 24-26 to accommodate various schedules. For more information about meeting locations and time, visit
For wardOP.org
Activity will center around validating and deliberating on input received at the Imagine
Tomorrow Workshop. Drafts of a vision statement, goal statements and actions will be presented. The Community Conversations workshop will involve some digital polling and will also once again include small group discussions.
The schedule includes ten meetings at a variety of locations around Overland Park. All meetings are open to the public. No reservations are required, but please visit www.forwardOP.org to RSVP and for details on meeting locations, parking, and child watch availability.
As someone said at the Jan. 30 workshop, “this is your chance to have your voice heard.”
