JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Works under the supervision of the Animal Care Supervisor, Animal Care Assistant Supervisor, and Animal Care Specialist throughout the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. Animal Care attendants interact with the public while performing daily duties. Assists with animal care duties to maintain the health and safety of the animals throughout the Farmstead.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists with the animal care at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead which includes feeding, watering, cleaning, animal waste disposal, grooming, health and welfare.

Performs milking demonstrations for the public in the Dairy Barn and/or public animal chats.

Performs daily cleaning of animal pens throughout the Farmstead.

Assists in weekly cleaning of other specialty enclosures throughout the Farmstead.

Cleaning of work areas. Includes sweeping, dusting, scrubbing, raking, shoveling, and removal of animal manure and other debris.

Acts as a floater attendant to other areas, under animal care management, when needed.

Provides general information to the public by answering questions, providing directions, and enforcing rules.

Assists in ensuring a safe environment for animals, visitors, and the general public. Identifies safety hazards, informs supervisors, and takes corrective action.

Performs other duties as assigned.

The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with volunteers, supervisors, customers, vendors, and any other persons or organizations with which interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.

The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks where applicable.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic education - Must be 16 years or older.

EXPERIENCE:

This is an entry-level position.

No previous experience is required.

Basic animal care background is beneficial and experience with livestock preferred.

SKILLS:

Manual dexterity.

Good communication skills.

Basic reading and math skills.

Good memory skills.

Good observational skills.

Tidy/picks up after oneself.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work under distracting conditions.

Ability to remain calm and polite during stressful situations.

Ability to carry out assignments through oral and written instructions.

Ability to receive training and maintain knowledge of Farmstead animals, activities, and programs.

Ability to greet and assist the general public.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to work with animals; including large livestock.

Ability to handle extreme environmental conditions.

Ability to lift at least 30 lbs.

Ability to sit or stand and be attentive for extended periods of time.

Ability to greet and assist the general public.

Ability to walk for extended periods of time.
