Summary
JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: The Court Clerk I, Municipal Court is an entry-level position that performs a variety of complex clerical and customer service duties in support of the Municipal Court. The Clerk's office operates as an interdependent team, and promotes a positive work culture. The position entails frequent internal and external communication, and requires considerable public relations skills. All Court Clerks access confidential information, therefore a high degree of ethics and professionalism must be maintained. Independent decision-making and problem solving skills are applied to aid staff and the public, operating within guidelines of policy and procedure.
Duties and Responsibilities
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides in person, email, and telephone customer service to the public, external agencies, and internal departments with inquiries related to court procedures, court policies, and case-specific information.
Responsible for entering information into the case management system and ensuring information is complete, detailed, and accurate including: Creating new cases from paper tickets, scheduling court dockets, notifying parties, and entering conviction and sentencing data.
Receives and processes payments in person, by mail, and online, ensuring that all penalties and financials are assessed and accurate in the case management system.
Balances individual cash drawers at the end of business day.
Scans documents and related materials into the case management system.
Assists defendants and attorneys during court dockets as cases are processed, reconciling complex dockets that require strategic decision-making skill and remaining up to date on latest court procedures.
Monitors various workflows within the case management system to act within appropriate deadlines, determine whether case information has been recorded accurately, and whether cases are being correctly processed.
Provides authorized court record information to the public, prosecutor, court appointed attorneys, law enforcement agencies, probation officers, military recruiters, etc., while keeping accurate records of dissemination.
Provides direct substitution for absent clerks, and assures all duties and deadlines are accomplished.
Performs other related duties as requested or assigned.
General Qualifications
EDUCATION:
Basic education which includes courses in typing, office practices and word processing, or additional equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE:
0-1 Years of clerical experience is required. Experience in customer service and cash handling related positions is preferred.

SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATION(S):
Access to the Kansas Criminal Justice Information System (KCJIS) may be required, so the following KCJIS requirements apply: must be at least 18 years of age; must not have been convicted of a felony; must not have been convicted of a serious misdemeanor; and must not have an arrest history the nature and severity of which warrant disqualification.
