JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The Facilities Specialist performs general maintenance of the Farmstead involving a wide variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks related to maintenance and repair of the recreation facility and grounds. Must be familiar with general construction and building skills. Assists with special events. Assists in emergency operations, including snow removal, as required

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists with or performs maintenance, repair and construction of Farmstead facilities. All aspects of facility maintenance are performed. Specific duties may include: plumbing, electrical, patching asphalt and concrete, painting, welding, sign maintenance and playground equipment maintenance.

2. Maintains outdoor structures such as buildings, fences, irrigation systems, windmill, benches, swings, and walkways.

3. Performs general construction duties to include measuring, forming, placing and finishing concrete; grading, backfilling, roofing, carpentry, painting, and plumbing.

4. Works with hand tools, power hand tools. Maintains, inspects, repairs, lubricates and cleans equipment and tools per manufacturer specifications listed in equipment manuals. Follows proper storage, maintenance and use techniques according to City policies and procedures.

5. Assists with the planting and maintenance of landscape beds including shrubs, perennials and annual flowers.

6. Works with water tanks, mowers, string trimmers, chain saws, and pole saws.

7. Performs landscaping to include: mulching, weeding, watering, grading and fertilizing.

8. Performs other assigned duties as requested; to include: cleaning park of trash and debris, sweeping and cleaning shop area.

9. Assists with contacting and managing contractors. Assists with supervision of contract work.

10. Operates and assists operators of various machines and equipment, such as front-end loaders, skid loaders, excavators, backhoes, tractors and attachments, dump trucks, trenchers, trailers, and snow removal equipment as needed.

11. Assists in overseeing temporary and seasonal laborers, laborer helpers, gardeners and volunteers.

12. The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable. Working one weekend day may be required during the operating season, April 1 to Oct. 31.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:

- Basic High school education or equivalent.

- Possession of an appropriate, valid driver's license.

- Must maintain an insurable driving record.

- Ability to obtain a valid class B commercial driver's license within six months of employment.

- Eligible for Current Snow Incentive program.

EXPERIENCE:

- Experience in maintaining buildings and grounds; including general construction, remodeling, electrical, plumbing, fencing, irrigation systems and masonry.

- Experience operating tractors, trucks, skid loaders, chain saws and similar type equipment.

SKILLS:

1. Mechanical.

2. Basic carpentry, electrical repairs, installation, concrete and plumbing.

4. Basic mathematical skills.

5. Time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.
