The Farmers' Market Coordinator assists with Farmers' Market Manager with all facets of the Overland Park Farmers' Market (OPFM) operations and marketing plan to inform, engage, and keep safe all patrons who work, visit and shop at the OPFM while implementing strategic plans of the Farmers' Market division within Parks & Recreation Department and the City of Overland Park. Together with the Market Manager, the Farmers' Market Coordinator plans, develops, implements and administers all internal and external operations, marketing/advertising/promotional campaigns, social media, as well as community outreach and education. The Farmers' Market Coordinator directs, manages, supervises and is responsible for the day-to-day operations and coordination of the OPFM, an essential food provider, including the market attendants, vendors, volunteers, maintenance and repair. The Farmers' Market Coordinator creates, plans and implements the division's training programs and systems formatting. The Farmers' Market Coordinator manages the Double Up Food Bucks and token program and all related reports, equipment and supplies. The Farmers' Market Coordinator oversees all special events, entertainment, promotional activities, special programming, community engagement, educational opportunities and any public and private rentals. The Farmers' Market Coordinator plans, develops, implements and administers all measures for ongoing compliance with all city, county, state and federal laws in regards to market operations and food safety laws and regulations. The Farmers' Market Coordinator conducts farm and food inspections. The Farmers' Market Coordinator plans, develops, implements, administers and advances the Farmers' Market philosophy, culture, camaraderie, goals, objectives and vision. The Farmers' Market Coordinator collaborates with other members of the Farmers' Market Division and City staff to establish and execute operational and content strategies. The Farmers' Market Coordinator attends public meetings and events, as necessary.

Serves as a key advisor to the Farmers' Market Manager on all division matters. Supports the Farmers' Market Manager in undertaking special assignments on matters of specific interest/concern. Participates in the development and implementation of the market philosophy, goals, objectives, policies and priorities for the Farmers' Market Division operations programs; recommends and administers policies and procedures. Assists the Farmers' Market Manager in the development and administration of the division's operating budget and Capital Improvement Program initiatives. Monitors and evaluates the efficiency and effectiveness of the OPFM operational and communication plans including the marketing/advertising/promotional campaigns. Provides on-site market management, leadership and operational support to ensure the OPFM operates in compliance within all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Implements policy and procedures and daily operational measures to enforce compliance. Attends and participates in professional and community group meetings; stays abreast of new trends and innovations in farmers' market operations, food safety practices and digital marketing including learning and using the City's current content management system. Researches, creates, writes, and edits accurate, timely, and compelling content, including articles, photos, videos, podcasts, infographics, and other multimedia elements, for OPFM social media, website, email campaigns, direct mail pieces, brochures, and other special projects. Perform on-camera and voice-over work for video and audio productions. Ensures and implements practices to make sure all staff and vendors are compliant with all city, state and federal laws and regulations especially in regards to food safety requirements and best practices. Collaborates with other members of the market team and City staff to establish and execute a functional, accurate and accountable token program. Serve as a resource for and collaborate with all vendors, staff and external stakeholders involved in the execution of this program. Plans, develops, coordinates and promotes all operational and communications plans for any special events, entertainment, promotional activities, special programming and all public and private rentals. Decides on appropriateness of event and usage, budget, develops theme, and public relations. Works with other departments and divisions to safely execute plans. Staffs and attends events as required. Oversees development of curriculum for all educational and nutritional programs offered at the OPFM. Works with schools, community groups, organizations, and others to increase awareness of the OPFM as a resource, and develops collaborations and partnerships to extend the awareness of the OPFM and its offerings. Creates, plans, develops and implements the division's training programs and systems formatting for all aspects of market operations. Manages and implements award applications and years of service program for market staff and vendors. Performs general management and leadership duties. Prepares internal OPFM policies and supervises personnel. Assists with developing, monitoring and managing the farmers' market cost center budget and planning. Conducts on-site farm and food visits to ensure all vendors are compliant with federal, state and local laws and regulations, to continue to build professional rapport, gain in-field training and more in-depth knowledge of each vendor's operations to help with succession planning and transparency. Responds to and resolves difficult and sensitive resident and vendor inquiries and complaints along with basic emergencies. Performs administrative and clerical work to maintain up-to-date records and accurate information. Prepares weekly, monthly and seasonal reports for staffing, revenue, expenditures and surveys as necessary. Ensures vendor and shopper compliance with farmers' market rules and regulations. Maintains a comprehensive knowledge of all vendors, staff, Downtown Overland Park (DOP) businesses and city policy. The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals. The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable. Attend City meetings and events, as required. Coordinates special projects as assigned. Assists with general administrative functions with the City and Parks & Recreation Department.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS: Bachelor's degree in the following field(s) of study: Parks & Recreation, Public Administration, Journalism, Public Relations, Communications, Public Affairs, Culinary, Agriculture, Nutrition Science, Marketing, Business or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. ServSafe Food Handler Certification must be completed within one year of hire. Must possess a valid driver's license and maintain an insurable driving record. First Aid and CPR certification must be completed within one year of hire. EXPERIENCE: Five years of increasingly responsible experience in operations, events, agriculture, culinary and/or similar. Three years of supervisory experience. Two years marketing, advertising, social media and/or similar, preferred. A general interest in leadership, building relationships, teamwork, supporting local, appreciation for the culinary world, a respect for agriculture and the ability to advocate for food equality is vital to the success of this position, preferred.
