The fire cadet position is specially designed for the individuals to be immersed in a hands-on training environment geared towards fire and emergency services. Each Cadet will be assigned to the Logistics Division for work assignments, training opportunities, educational check-in's, and rotated throughout the fire department for various field and office assignments.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Delivers mail and supplies to Fire Stations.

Assists with managing Fire Department inventory.

Receives and assists with special events/programs within the Fire Department's operations.

Attends departmental meetings on a regular basis.

Actively participates in the Department, while ensuring retention of policies and operations.

Attend various trainings including but not limited to fire operations, EMS operations, Fire Department policy and procedure, driving, etc.

The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with supervisors, customers, and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.

The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks.

Performs other duties as assigned.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:

High school diploma.

Successful completion of regional Firefighter High School program.

Must possess a valid driver's license prior to beginning employment with the City.

Firefighter I & II Certification preferred.

Must pass the psychological evaluation, drug screen, and physical.

EXPERIENCE:

No experience required.

SKILLS:

Attention to detail.

Time management skills, including the ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to meet deadlines.

Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

Ability to carry out assignments through oral and written instructions.

Ability to work independently.

Ability to work in a hectic environment with many interruptions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to make and receive phone calls.

Ability to identify and distinguish colors.

Ability to operate City vehicles.

Ability to operate power and/or hand tools.

Hand and eye coordination adequate to input computer and typewriter.

Ability to crawl, run, climb, bend, stoop, twist, reach, contort and lift up to 160 lbs. while wearing heavy protective gear weighing about 50 lbs.
