JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Transports vehicles to vendors for repairs and/or scheduled maintenance. Tracks vehicle maintenance progress and returns vehicles to service upon completion of repairs. Obtains collision repair estimates. Performs minor mechanical repairs to vehicles.

Move vehicles and other equipment in and around the shop.

Transports vehicles to vendors for repairs and/or scheduled maintenance.

Tracks vehicle maintenance progress and returns vehicles to service upon completion of repairs.

Maintains equipment and special tools in proper working order. Inspects, repairs lubricates, and cleans equipment.

Performs routine and scheduled maintenance on all special tools and shop equipment to include diagnostic and calibrating systems. Follows proper storage, maintenance, and use techniques according to City policies and appropriate equipment manuals.

Oversees the storage, issuance, and return of tools and equipment within the Fleet Tool Room. Maintains accurate accounting of Tool Room inventory, and daily identification of issuance and return items. Conducts daily inspection of tool room inventory providing timely reporting of missing, and/or non-working items. Performs rudimentary tool/ equipment maintenance and calibrations. Coordinates with the Fleet Supervisor on needed repair, calibration, and/or replacement of non-working items.

Assists with the inventory control of city vehicle fuels as assigned. Coordinates with the Inventory Control Specialist to conduct onsite readings of fuel storage tank levels, inspection of fuel island dispensers and administering of monthly fuel tank leak test, and quality control checks of supplied fuels.

Uses assigned work management software to accurately record orders made, inventory levels, received goods, issued goods and other inventory control activities for activities related to fleet maintenance. Maintains accurate inventory control records such as stock counts, usage volumes, product pricing, product quality/ warranty problems, purchase order requisitions, vendor information and product specifications.

Shop maintenance including cleaning floors, wash bay maintenance, and trash removal, etc.

Support shop with minor vehicle repairs.

Communicates with vendors both orally and in writing as needed regarding the determination of equipment service, status or orders, and scheduling of deliveries.

Performs manual tasks in and around the shop. Maintain inventory control for items such as; hand tools, small power equipment, safety supplies, maintenance materials, technician uniforms, and services.

Verbally reports maintenance information to the Administrative Clerk.

Collects vehicle maintenance requests from supervisor and coordinates appropriate repair facility for the Police Department fleet and other city vehicles. Obtains body damage and repair estimates for review by supervisor.

Performs minor mechanical repairs to vehicles.

The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.

The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:

Basic education or equivalent experience.

Possession of an appropriate valid driver's license.

Must maintain an insurable driving record.

Must successfully pass polygraph exam and police background check prior to employment.

EXPERIENCE:

One year customer service experience.

Mechanical knowledge of automotive repairs preferred.

Ability to lift 50 pounds and transport 20 feet.

Ability to lift and carry up to 18 pounds up to a distance of 75 feet.

Ability to reach, stand, crawl, bend, stoop, climb, push and pull.

Ability to operate city and police fleet vehicles

Ability to make and receive phone calls.

Ability to distinguish smells.

Ability to operate power and/or hand tools (screwdriver, wrench, hammer, drill).

Ability to work in confined spaces.

Hand and eye coordination adequate to input computer.

Visual stamina and acuity to review apha/numeric data listed in computer printouts, manufacturers specifications handbooks.

Exposure to chemicals, vehicle exhaust fumes, dust, smoke, vapors and sprays.
