JOB SUMMARY STATEMENT: Assists in the planning and design of the gardens, flower beds and wooded areas at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead. Organizes, instructs, and participates in the planting, maintenance and care of plants, trees, flowers and landscaping. Assists in the training and guidance of volunteers.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assists in the planning and design of the gardens, flower beds and wooded areas at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead.

Organizes, instructs, and participates in the planting, maintenance and care of plants, trees, flowers and landscaping, in keeping with established work plans. Coordinates work tasks with other seasonal staff and volunteers.

Familiar with the use of rototillers, weed eaters, mowers, brush trimmers, and garden hand tools (included but not limited to shovels, spades, hoes, hedge clippers, wheelbarrows, and post hole diggers)

Loads, transports, and unloads plants and materials from trucks.

Uses a variety of hand and power tools to trim bushes, trees, and grasses around the farmstead.

Uses proper horticultural techniques to water, prune, fertilize, weed, and mulch.

Assists in set up, operation and tear down of event equipment and supplies. Provides customer service to visitors.

Assists in ensuring a safe environment for visitors and the general public. Identifies safety hazards and informs supervisors of hazards and takes corrective action.

Performs other duties as assigned.

The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with supervisors, customers, and any other persons or organization with whom interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.

The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS

High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 18 years of age.

Possession of appropriate, valid driver's license.

Must maintain an insurable driving record.

EXPERIENCE

Two years experience in greenhouse, nursery or landscaping, and the design, installation and maintenance of plant materials, or an equivalent level of experience.
