Summary
Supervises and coordinates educational programming and exhibitions for the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens which includes educational classes, programs, self-guided activities, field trips, temporary/permanent exhibits, educational signage, tours and nature walks. Participates in the planning and development of events and programs. Oversees development of curriculum for all education programs. Identifies grant opportunities and prepares submissions. Coordinates programs with the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens staff as needed. Develop and conduct surveys and evaluation instruments for programming performance measures.
Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates education programming for the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. Assists in the planning and development of all current educational programs and events. May also include the coordination and planning of exhibits, temporary displays, or other events in conjunction with the Arboretum & Botanical Gardens staff.
Responsible for overseeing art exhibit development and procurement, installation, and coordination. To be done in coordination with the City's Arts & Events Manager.
Responsible for contract development and coordination for educational services, programs, and vendors as required by city policy.
Plans, develops and coordinates all marketing and public relations plans for educational activities at the Arboretum. Creates, designs, prepares and writes materials for brochures and other promotional materials in coordination with the City's Communication Team. Reviews, updates, designs and writes educational information for use on the City's website and other social media platforms.
Oversees development of curriculum for all educational programs at the Arboretum, including instructors, accommodations, printed materials, marketing, enrollment, scheduling and other items, as identified. Responsible for all educational experiences at the Arboretum both on-site or via the virtual environment.
Works with schools, community groups, organizations, and others to increase awareness of Arboretum as a resource, and develops collaborations and partnerships to extend the Arboretum's programs.
Responsible for development and coordination of interpretive signage throughout the Arboretum.
Responsible for coordination and direction of educational community engagement activities and events. Works with other supervisors in the implementation and coordination of events and details.
Attends Friends of the Arboretum (FOTA) meetings when directed. Responsible for coordinating the grants submission process with FOTA.
Produces post-program wrap up reports; prepares progress reports for the FOTA monthly meetings and annual reports.
Supervises volunteers, regular/seasonal and part time employees.
Performs other duties as assigned, and assists in the daily operation of the Arboretum, as needed. The employee must work the days and hours necessary to perform all assigned responsibilities and tasks. Must be available (especially during regular business hours or shifts) to communicate with subordinates, supervisors, customers, vendors and any other persons or organization with which interaction is required to accomplish work and employer goals.
The employee must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to, attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
General Qualifications
EDUCATION & SPECIAL LICENSE(S)/CERTIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in education, public administration, communications or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Possession of appropriate, valid driver's license.
Must maintain an insurable driving record.
EXPERIENCE:
Two years experience in working with the public and coordinating educational programs.
Experience working with volunteers is preferred.
