Street markings indicate new bike routes in OP
2
You may have noticed some new and slightly unusual street markings in Overland Park.
The work on Lamar is part of the city's ongoing efforts to implement the bicycle master plan that was adopted in 2015. Work this year is focused mainly on the northern part of Overland Park.
The work on Lamar is part of the city's annual street maintenance program. The street was chip sealed by a contractor, who was responsible for replacing the existing pavement markings that were covered up and any new additions.
Since Lamar is a bike route on the master plan and gets much use by bicyclists as a key north-south route through the city, it made sense to have the contractor add the bike markings on the portion it was responsible for between 95th and 103rd.

The contractor also placed bike markings on Lowell from 79th to 87th, Grandview from 95th to 103rd, Grant from 87th to 91st, and 99th Terrace from Carter to Antioch.
The city also has bike markings in various reconstruction projects this year,

including 143rd (Pflumm to Quivira), 159th (Nall to
Mission), and Grant (79th to 87th).
The city has a separate project to continue the bike markings on Lamar and several other streets in northern Overland Park. That project will be bid before the end of the year, and the work will be completed next year.
A large project is also under design for 2019, when several of the streets in southern Overland Park will be the focus. This project and the one that will soon be bid both have significant federal funding to offset the cost of implementation.
