The Office of Professional Standards includes Internal Affairs and Training and is comprised of a Captain, Sergeant and seven officers/ detectives. It is the policy of the Overland Park Police Department that the Internal Affairs Unit will accept and thoroughly investigate all complaints of alleged misconduct, bias and racial profiling. The Internal Affairs Unit also ensures that follow –up investigations are fair, equitable, impartial and fact based.
There were 30 total citizen complaints in 2017 vs. 27 citizen complaints in 2016. This was a 11% increase.
Of 30 citizen complaints in 2017, 9 were substantiated. Of 27 citizen complaints in 2016, 8 were substantiated.
