The Police Personnel Unit oversees all recruiting and hiring activities for the Department, as well as internal promotions and general personnel actions for the nearly 400 full-time, part-time, and volunteer positions. Additional responsibilities include serving as a liaison with the Civil Service Commission and oversight of the Volunteer Program.
The Personnel Unit is staffed by one Captain, an Administrative Assistant and three Detectives.
Recruiting and Hiring Activities –
Despite national trends of declining numbers of applicants in Law Enforcement, our Department had a slight increase over the previous year. We attended 56 various recruiting events in 2017, which represents a 54% increase over the previous year. These events, coupled with advertisements via the Internet, printed displays, newspapers, and social media, resulted in the hiring of:
•20 Police Officers (460 applicants) •3 Dispatchers (288 applicants)
•3 Report Technicians
•1 Administrative Assistant
•1 Motorist Assist/Parking Enforcement •9 School Crossing Guards
•7 Department Volunteers
Additional accomplishments include the completion of two successful promotional processes, resulting in the promotion of 6 new Sergeants and 2 new Captains
