Recognition, Promotions and Training
Patrol officers were recognized throughout the year for their service, professionalism and dedication to the citizens they serve and the profession they represent. In 2018, numerous members were recognized with lifesaving awards, two officers were recognized as Officer of the Quarter; three officers received Community Service Awards,; one sergeant received the Police Combat Award, Metro Chief’s Gold Award and the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police Award for Valor,; two officers were awarded the Police Combat Award; and one squad received Unit of the Year.

There were also countless compliments from peers and citizens on the service and professionalism given by the officers. An example of the comments received include:
“I just wanted to say thank you, as we have been through a lot and have not had many people show the kindness that Officer Sundberg and Officer Gumm showed me and my kids. Thank you from the bottom of my heart, I know I have long way to go supporting my kids and getting my son help. I am grateful for your team’s intervention and thought you should know that I appreciate their kindness.”
