Training & Highlights
Special Weapons & Tactics Team (SWAT) completed over 300 hours of training. This training included high risk warrant service, barricade operations, hostage rescue, counter-terrorism, active shooter, and specialized range training. The SWAT Team also includes the PRO’s (precision rifle operators) and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT). The PRO’s trained over 100 hours and CNT trained for 40 hours. The SWAT Team was activated 23 times in 2017 that included warrant and barricade operations, and dignitary protection operations..
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal Team (Bomb Squad) team completed 234 hours of training with 72 hours of those hours with the Kansas-Missouri Bomb tech Working Group. During 2017, the EOD Team was activated 34 times including bomb sweeps for dignitary protection operations, suspicious packages, and KU football and basketball games.
The Dive Team participated in 120 hours of training. The team was activated nine times. Those activations included victim recoveries, evidence recoveries, and flooding response.
