The Emergency Services Section (ESS) purpose is threefold.
Maintains readiness through training and maintenance of the section’s special teams functions and equipment for: Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT), Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD/Bomb Squad), Underwater Rescue & Recovery (Dive), Precision Rifle Operators, and the Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT).
Strategically direct resources to address the following:
- Responding to calls for service and Patrol staffing relief
- Fugitive and warrant apprehensions
- US Marshals Fugitive Apprehension Task Force participation
(2 positions)
- Chronic crime and problem locations
- Retail crimes
- Dignitary protection & security
- Provide planning and security services for special events.
The Emergency Services Section is responsible for the maintenance of its specialized equipment and personnel. To transport that equipment, requires heavy equipment such as the EOD Truck, the BEAR (SWAT Rescue Truck), two Dive Team boats and an equipment trailer, and a heavy duty truck to pull the trailers. ESS also maintains the CDI (civil disturbance incident) equipment and trailers.
