All we’re asking is that you put your butts in the sand
All we’re asking is that you put your butts in the sand
August is typically one of the hottest and driest months in our city. This combination is ripe for grass and mulch fires, which may turn into house fires.
Did you know the leading cause of these fires is carelessly discarded smoking materials? Cigarettes flicked into planters, planting beds or from moving car windows are the main culprits. So here’s what we’re asking.
Please put your butts in the sand.
If you smoke, get a metal container filled with sand and place it where you smoke. When you finish smoking, snuff your cigarette out in the sand and leave it there to completely extinguish.
If you own a property where people smoke, please provide a metal container filled with sand for smokers to dispose of their smoking material.
Finally, if you smoke in your car please get a self-extinguishing ashtray for your car. They’re inexpensive and easy to use.
By following these tips, you’ll
help prevent grass fires and
possibly structure fires. You’ll help save
property and possibly even a life. So this August, relax and putt your butts in the sand!
