EARTH NOTES
Our recycling center at 11921 Hardy will be accepting unwanted and nonworking Christmas light sets for recycling through Jan. 18.
Make this the year to update your tree by switching to LED Christmas lights. The electricity it takes to power one 7-watt traditional incandescent bulb could power 140 LED lights. LED lights can also help keep your natural tree fresh as they don’t produce heat like incandescent bulbs.
If you leave your porch light on at night consider changing the bulbs to LEDs. These long-life, high efficiency lights use up to 90 percent less energy which allows them to pay for themselves in as little as two years.
Inefficient appliances, drafty windows and doors, poor insulation, and other fixable energy wasters cost U.S. consumers an estimated $300 billion a year—more than the combined budgets of U.S.Army and Marines.
Recycle your tree. Bring your tree to one of our four drop-off locations so that it can be chipped and used for trails and mulch.
