You can watch rising soccer stars
It’s free and you get to see future soccer stars.
They play with determination, speed and a dream of winning it all.
The SCHEELS Overland Park Soccer Complex, with its 12 top-tier, nationally recognized fields, has some of the best tournaments coming this year.
The US Youth Soccer National Championships returns to Overland Park July 23-28. The top 106 teams of boys and girls, ages 13-19, from across the country compete at this annual event.
“You will see future Division One college soccer players at this tournament,” said Mike Laplante, soccer complex manager. “This exceptional national tournament is coming back to Overland Park following its successful appearance in 2010, our first year of operations here at the soccer complex, and 2013.”
Participants associated with the national, regional and local
tournaments held at the complex have a tremendous impact on local businesses including retailers, restaurants and hotels, Laplante said.
“We are extremely busy at the complex. Players, coaches and families need places to eat, shop and stay. Our complex is popular and highly regarded as a tournament site,” he said.
The complex is hosting 18 tournaments in 2019, including the Region II President’s Cup June 13-16.
Inoculate your pet against dangerous rabies
License your pet with the city.
Overland Park requires all dogs and cats to be licensed by the time they reach six months old, or within 30 days of being brought into the City. Pet registration requirements protect your pet and the public by ensuring that all dogs and cats are vaccinated for rabies, a requirement for licensing.
Your license tag also assists animal control officers when a pet is lost. Overland Park retains tag information, which assists
animal control officers with reuniting a pet with an owner.
Residents have until
June 30 to license each pet without incurring a penalty.
On and after July 1, a resident will be charged a $20 penalty per animal in addition to the standard license fee.
The license fee is $10 for each spayed or neutered pet; $20 for each non-spayed or non-neutered pet.
Overland Park offers three convenient ways for you to register your pet:

Fourth of July continued from front cover
Festivities begin at 4 p.m. with the food and drink vendors. Entertainment starts at 6 p.m. with State Line Drive performing, followed by Noe Palma at 8 p.m. Fireworks begin around 9:45 p.m. Please do not bring your own fireworks. Possession or discharge of personal fireworks is illegal in Overland Park.
The rain date is July 5, however, there will be no food or drink vendors or musical entertainment.
Please bring blankets or lawn chairs for seating. To avoid obstructing the view of others, leave your tent or shade canopy at home. You may bring your dog, but it must be on a leash. We recommend you don’t since many dogs panic around fireworks.
You can bring a cooler but no glass.
ADA parking will be available, but vehicles must properly display the state required sign.
