                  Overland Park adopts NDO
Overland Park joins other Johnson County cities and communities in Kansas to adopt a non-discrimination ordinance.
The City Council took action in October to prohibit discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.
“Overland Park has always been an inclusive city. From our beginning in May 1960, we’ve accepted and embraced others who were shunned. In February, we adopted a City Council resolution that says, in part: ‘..the full inclusion and acceptance of all people is fair and just and in the City’s best interest,’” said Mayor Carl Gerlach. “The resolution further states: ‘...that as a component of the City’s vision, a welcoming and inclusive community where people of all ages and from diverse backgrounds are engaged.’”
The resolution encourages the Kansas State Legislature to adopt comprehensive anti-discrimination legislation.
Overland Park’s ordinance, HRC-3266, prohibits discrimination in employment, housing and public accommodation cases based on sexual or gender orientation,
as well as race, religion, color, sex, disability, national origin, ancestr y, militar y status, genetic information, martial status, familial status, or any other classification protected by federal, state or local laws.
Anyone who
feels they have been a victim of such discrimination may file
a claim by contacting the City Clerk’s Office at 913-895-6150.

Connectivity brings value to your neighborhood
Neighborhood block parties, community activities, and information on current and future developments are just a few items of interest you and
your neighborhood group or
homes association may want to learn more about.
Your city works with numerous homes associations and neighborhood groups helping residents learn about municipal operations and activities.
They share common concerns, gain tactics to resolve issues and learn ideas for neighborhood engagement, such as street meet and greet
celebrations and potluck socials.
These NEC meetings are held at Matt Ross Community Center, 8101 Marty, at 6 p.m.
