Patrol Division
The Patrol Division is the largest division and the most visible asset of the department. Patrol personnel provide direct police services and 9-1-1 responses. Our response time and the quality of police service is the top priority of the division. Patrol is made up of 96 officer positions, 16 Sergeants, 5 Captains and 1 Major. In 2016 we carried an average 6 vacancies in patrol. We have three patrol shifts; days, evenings and midnights.
Resource Allocation
To ensure complete and organized police coverage, the City is divided into four quadrants, which are made up of districts. The districts are determined by the demand of police services and are reviewed bi-annually. The higher the demand for services, the smaller the district. This marks the third consecutive year patrol has used districts as a method of allocating resources. In 2015, the Patrol Division operated out of the Sanders station. In 2016, we divided personnel to allow patrol to operate out of the Scafe station as well as the Sanders station. Both now have a station office for walk-in reports.
Priorities
A district officer’s primary mission is to ensure the safety of our citizens along with their own safety as they respond to calls for service, and address non-compliant persons. In addition, they are to work toward building partnerships with businesses, community and neighborhood leaders along with the
prevention of crime and enforcement of traffic laws.
Training
It is important our officers are well trained in the areas of fair and impartial policing, interviewing, evidence collection and working with the mentally ill by training our officers, as crisis intervention team (CIT) members.
