Recognition and Promotions
Patrol officers were recognized throughout the year for their service, professionalism and dedication to the citizens they serve and the profession they represent. Some examples include: 9 members being recognized for lifesaving awards, 3 officers being recognized as officer of the quarter, 1 supervisor of the year, a patrol squad recognized as unit of the year and one member of patrol recognized as rookie of the year. There were countless compliments from peers and citizens on the service and professionalism of the officers.
Some of the comments include:
“Officer Ebberts, I could not help but send you a sincere thanks for the help you provided to my family. You were a champion for our family and handled everything with care and diligence beyond what I could have expected.”
“Officer Riley was so incredibly patient and professional, I never felt rushed and felt confident that things were being handled appropriately despite being dazed from traffic accident.” As a result of the accident, my dog ran. Officer Riley drove me extensively through the neighborhood looking for my dog” I want pass on my gratitude and commend her for the service she provided me that day.”
“Officer Hall stopped me for driving through a stop sign. He treated me with respect. I really appreciate having an excellent police force here in Overland Park.”
Five members were promoted from the division in 2016. They included promotions to Sergeant, Captain, Major and Deputy Chief.
