Patrol Division—K9 Unit
Patrol also has two canine officers assigned to the division. A third canine officer is assigned to emergency services as an EOD specialist. This is the third consecutive year canine officers have been assigned to patrol. Each year, the officers contribute more
toward our objectives and help officers with apprehensions,
searches, and recoveries of narcotics. Below are some highlights of their efforts.

62 Building searches, 27 area searches for felony suspects (61/21 in 2015)

K9 Highlights
 K9 team responded with SWAT for barricaded subjects. One subject had felony warrants for aggravated battery and parole violations, and the other was unknown but was reportedly armed with a handgun. Both subjects surrendered to K9 team after entry was made into the residence.
 K9 responded to assist with a felony warrant service for aggravated escape. Family members of the suspect told officers he would likely run from officers. K9 team presence on scene prevented suspect from fleeing, and he was taken into custody without incident.
 K9 team responded to assist the DEA with a search warrant on a well-known drug house. K9 indicated in several places throughout the residence. Methamphetamines were located hidden in the walls where K9 indicated in the master bathroom, and Marijuana/Methamphetamines were located in another bedroom.
