“I was blown away by the way it was handled, not just by Officer Hernandez, but the other officers on scene, the fire personnel and the EMS
personnel. Everyone was sincerely concerned, professional, caring and answered any and all questions all of those involved had.”
“Two bike patrol officers arrived and they were able to check on the kids and offer baseball cards. They said that they had received the call for additional officers and biked all the way from Prairie Fire to 133rd and Quivira. The boys were so thrilled to interact with the officers on the bikes and receive Royals baseball cards. It was very much a touching moment. “
A citizen came by the station office with her autistic nephew. The citizen said she had just witnessed Officers Shipps, Roush, and Gumm assisting an autistic citizen. She said she saw the officers working with the health aids to move a subject out of the street and to safety. Rather than using force the citizen reported seeing Officers being patient and kind to the subject in
need. The citizen said seeing how patient these Officers were made her feel proud to live in Overland Park and alleviated some of her greatest fears surrounding her nephews diagnosis.
In addition, 12 members of the division were transferred to other units, such asinvestigations,communitypolicingortraffic.Ofour22 fieldtraining officers, 13 were added in 2017. Of the 8 promotions received in 2017, one member was promoted to sergeant from the division.
