  Operations Bureau- Community Policing
Community Highlights:
Operation Rudolph
OPPD continues to partner with the Johnson County Chapter of the NAACP, Lenexa Police Department, Merriam Police Department, Shawnee Police Department, The Shawnee Mission School District Education Foundation, Target Stores of Overland Park, The Overland Park FOP and Officers Foundation and numerous other businesses for Operation Rudolph. The program identifies 27 families from the Shawnee Mission School District and provides gifts for the student and all the household family members as well as the food necessary for a holiday meal for a family of 5-8. The students selected are picked up by a uniformed officer and taken to Target to shop for the gifts. This is a great example of our officers working with our youth and community partners to assist families in need.
All Trunks No Drugs Annual Trunk or Treat event
The Community Policing section partnered with Overland Park Planning Department, Johnson County Branch of the NAACP, and the Overland Park FOP and Officers Foundation to present the annual trunk or treat event. The Scafe building parking lot had numerous police vehicles with decorated Halloween themed trunks competing for prizes while the youth dressed out in their Halloween costumes walking and collecting candy “trick or treat” at each trunk. There were bounce houses, music, a cake walk and other fun activities for kids. There were approximately 2,000 kids and parents who attended this event over a two hour period.
