Thanksgiving Food Basket Giveaway
The Overland Park Police Department Community Policing Section partners with the NAACP Johnson County Branch to identify and deliver Thanksgiving food baskets to families in need in both our Shawnee Mission School District, Blue Valley School District and US Military families stationed at Fort Leavenworth. The Officers locate the families in need and we as a group put the food baskets together which include a frozen turkey and side for 5-8 people. Once the food baskets are prepared the officers deliver the food baskets to the families they have identified.
Caring for Kids
The Overland Park Police Department works with Comanche Elementary Caring for Kids and assist with an annual event at the school where they have a cookout and a touch a truck event. The Community Policing Unit is assisted by the Emergency Services section who bring their Bear and EOD truck to this event for kids to see. This is a great community event for the students at Comanche Elementary.
Neighborhood Executive Committee
The Overland Park Community Policing section partners with the Community Planning section to attend the Neighborhood Executive Committee meetings every 2 months. We participate with the neighborhood leadership teams who have direct contact with neighborhood groups and HOA’s
