Highlights:
Operation Rudolph– OPPD continues to partner with members of the Johnson County Chapter of the NAACP and members from the Lenexa and Merriam Police Departments to facilitate a charitable activity on December 16, 2016 which provided food and gifts to twenty-four under-privileged families in Overland Park. The OPPD Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #21, Target, The Royals, AIG, and others partnered with us by providing cash, meals, wrapping paper, and volunteers for this annual event.
Operation Trunk or Treat– COPPS partnered with Caring for Kids and the OPPD FOP and FOPA to have a “Trunk or Treat” event in the lower level parking lot at Scafe. Car trunks were decorated with Halloween decorations. Many kids from the local neighborhoods were able to trick or treat for candy and participate in games including a cake walk.
National Night Out— Overland Park Police along with several neighborhoods participated in the yearly National Night Out celebration on August 2, 2016. Several Overland Park neighborhoods are actively involved in National Night Out. Over 1,000 citizens enjoyed the collective celebrations, food, fun and games.
Police Explorer Post #2986– The Explorer Post #2986 consists of 35 high school students ranging from 14-20 years of age. Officers from our department serve as Explore Advisors who teach and mentor students desiring a career in law enforcement. In June of 2016, Overland Park Police hosted a week long Explorer Camp and a Regional Law Enforcement Challenge.
3-0n-3 Basketball Tournament– In May of 2016, Overland Park hosted the first “All Nets No Drugs” event. The tournament brought officers and students together to build trust and education regarding the abuse of drugs and alcohol.
Crime Free Multi-Housing Program—Overland Park Continues a strong
relationship with the multi-housing community and apartment complexes.
In April and in October of 2016, COPPS officers provided CFMH training to a variety of apartment communities throughout the City. By certifying as many properties as possible, we can enhance partnerships and provide tools to apartment communities to best reduce crime and manage risk on their properties.
