Emergency Services Section
ESS is also responsible for the EOD Equipment Truck , Ballistic Engineered Armored Response (The Bear), Dive Trailer and Fast Water Rescue Boat. ESS also has two officers who are deputized as United States Marshals who assist on fugitive apprehension.
Training & Highlights:
 Special Weapons and Tactics Team (SWAT) completed over 264 hours of training. This training includes, downed officer rescue, high risk warrant service, specialized range training, dignitary pro- tection and hostage rescue.
 Precision Rifle Operators and Counter Snipers completed 96 hours of specialized training.
 Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) team completed 18 hours of training with the Kansas-Missouri Bomb Technician Working Group. During 2016, the EOD Unit was deployed 53 times including bomb sweeps for dignitary protection, suspicious packages, KU football and basketball games.
 Water Rescue and Recovery team participated in 96 hours of in house training. Three new Rescue Divers were certified in 2016. The Dive Team was
called out 4 times. The call outs included evidence
searches related to two homicides and two drowning
recoveries.
