Personnel Unit
The Personnel Unit oversees all recruiting and hiring activities for the Department, as well as internal promotions and general personnel actions for the nearly 400 full-time, part-time, and volunteer positions. Additional responsibilities include serving as a liaison with the Civil Service commission and oversight of the Volunteer Program. The Personnel Unit is currently staffed by one Captain, an Administrative Assistant and three Detectives.
Recruiting and Hiring Activities–
Attended 37 recruiting events in 2016. These events, coupled with advertisements via the Internet and newspapers, resulted in the hiring of
 27 new police officers (441 applications)
 9 new dispatchers (296 applications)
 1 Dispatch Supervisor
 1 Records Supervisor
 1 Crime Analyst
 2 Records Technicians
 1 Fleet Service Technician
 1 Animal Control Officer
 5 School Crossing Guards
