Support Services Division
Property, Crime Lab and Records Units The Property Unit is comprised of the following personnel:
 Civilian Supervisor
 Property technicians (3 full-time, 1 part-time)
The Property Unit is responsible for the security and accountability
of all recovered property and evidence submitted by officers. In
2016, the Property Unit handled over 36,000 property items. The Property Unit returned 808 items to their rightful owners, and another 11,233 items were properly disposed of.
The Crime Laboratory Unit is comprised of two Crime Lab technicians who process crime scenes for recoverable physical evi- dence. Some of this material our lab officers analyze and some of is transfered to a regional crime lab for more specific analysis.
The Police Records Unit is comprised of the following person- nel:
 Civilian Supervisor • Records Technicians (4)
 Report Technician (1) • Citizen Volunteers (2)
The Records Unit processes and maintains custody of all police reports and accompanying audio, video, and written attachments. These records are disseminated to law enforcement personnel, prosecutors, defense attorneys and citizens. The Unit manages the online police reporting and provides civilian fin- gerprint services to Overland Park residents. During 2016, the records unit processed over 11,000 re- quest for records and assisted over 13,800 citizens.
